Achievements
Since its inception ROA has undertaken the following:-
Has conducted survey on Orphans and children status in May-Jul1e 2001
in 13 wards of Songea Town Council. Terms of Reference of survey was:-
- To obtain actual number of Orphans am! to know in what conditions are they living.
- To get the first hand in formation about child labour
- To get accounts of Child abuse and neglects.
- Extend of HIV/AIDS pandemic
- To explore street children situations.
By using participatory approach. ROA has done the following;-
Conduct HIV/AIDS awareness raising and sensitization public meetings in13
wards of Songea Town Concil (Mjini, Majengo. Mfaranyaki, Misufini. i'v1atarawe,
Matogoro, Mletele, Mshangano, Ruhuwiko, Ruvuma, Subiri, Lizaboni, and
Bombambili). and 4 wards of Songea District Council which are; Gumbiro,
Tanga, Namtumbo, and Rwinga (when they were in Songea Rural District
Jurisdiction)
Conducted Sensitization seminars on HIV/AIDS FOR Bar maids.
Owners/Proprietors of Guest Houses, Bars and Disco Halls (it was conducted
between January - March 2002 at Don Bosco Centre and Majimaji Hotel)
Public meeting at Madizini,
Ward in September 2002 Madizini's
HIV/AISDS and Orphans task force was established. Task force is based
in Madizini.
ROA was one of consortium of 50 NGO'S representing about 3.000
registered NGO'S in Tanzania
who went to parliament in Dodoma and
successfully, blocked the controversial NGO's Bill of 2002 until revisions
and reviews was made in the Bill to the satisfaction of both parties:-
Government and NGO's
ROA was invited to attend CSPD annual review meeting at Peramiho in
November 2002. This was first time NGO's participation. Out of 25
registered NGO's IN Ruvuma region. only 3 were invited
ROA is in partnership with UNICEF and other staketlOlders In
Implementing three (3) years programme of Out Of School Your
(OOSY)
- Paying school fees for 25 Orphans who are stuclying at secondari schools
level and 2 orphans have been completed form six this fear and 105
Primary School Children have been supported with their basic needs
Sponsored 9 youth to underiake tailoring and carpentry Irigation and Farming
- Roa is active member of respectable umbrella Organizaion which is going
by the name of National Network of Organizations working with children's
in Tanzania (NNOC)
- Awareness process carried to 29 villages in Songea District to open up
trusts to support orphans in their villages.
- The Government at all level appreciates the Initiative taken by ROA to
support the children
- ROA supporting 55 home based patients in 4 livards of Songea Municipal
(Subira, Mletele, Mfaranyaki and Ruvuma)
