“The Six Wives of Henry Lefay” is a comedy film released in 2009 and is rated PG-13. Henry Lefay (Tim Allen) is a rich and successful businessman from Ithica, NY. He owns a chain of audio/visual discount stores and does very well at it. In the opening of the film Henry is in Cancun, Mexico getting ready to go out to sea for a para-sailing excursion. He is accompanied by another tourist named Lipshitz. As we watch, Lefay puts the jacket on and gets strapped to the parachute. The camera moves back to the beach, and we see a man fall from the sail into the sea. Barbara “Barbie” Lefay receives a phone call telling her that her father has died and she should come to New York from California for the funeral. She thinks that it is a prank from he father but finds that it is the truth. She and her boyfriend Lloyd travel to Ithica to attend what is sure to be a circus of a funeral. As it states in the title, Henry Lefay has been married six times, though two of them were to the same woman. As they get ready to leave Barbie recalls the last time that they spoke and we are taken back one year to see the events of that time. Henry had fooled Barbie into coming home by telling her that he had been in an accident. She arrives to find that he is well and now remarried for the fifth time to a woman named Autumn who happens to be 28 years old, the same age as Barbie. He later tells her that he is now engaged to another woman and wants her to tell Autumn that he wants a divorce, which she refuses to do. Later she finds that her father’s latest fiancee’ is Sarah Jane, a woman with whom she went to high school and who has always had it in for her. Angry, she leaves and tells him that she never wants to see his “stupid face” again. Now back in the present time they arrive for the funeral and meet with the various wives, including her own mother Kate (Andie McDowell) who seems to be faring well. Ophelia (Jenna Elfman), the second and fourth wife, is crying when they arrive to her house but she recovers quickly and actually hits on Lloyd while they are there. When everyone goes to the funeral home it is discovered that each wife had a different idea of how Henry wanted his remains to be handled. Ophelia said that he wanted to be cremated, Autumn said he had purchased two plots for them in one cemetery while Veronica said he had two plots for them in a different cemetery. Also joining them is Henry’s first wife, an African American woman he had married while very young and living in Chicago. Their marriage only lasted a few months but he had recently contacted her and they had been emailing each other every day. The others did not even know that she existed as Henry had never spoken of her. Ophelia tricks the head of the funeral home into cremating Henry and then tries to steal the urn with his ashes. The others chase her into town where the urn gets broken and the ashes scatter into the wind. They get another urn and have the funeral as planned. However, they get a big surprise when Henry walks in playing his harmonica. He is alive and well. It turns out that the other tourist had been the one to fall to his death and he had freaked out and gotten drunk and disappeared for a few days. He finally made it back home just in time to arrive at his own funeral. Barbie sends her boyfriend home broken hearted. He had proposed many times to her but she had always turned him down. Now she reveals that she may never get married and that she doesn’t want to make a mistake and marry the wrong man. Her mother is sick and goes to the hospital the next day after they have a big argument. She goes to the hospital and sees her father leaving her mother’s room quickly as if he doesn’t want to be seen. After speaking with her mother for a few minutes she realizes that she has made a big mistake with Lloyd , that her father’s many marriages have made it difficult for her to trust the promise made by any man. At the end of the movie Barbie and Lloyd get married and she and her father dance to their song, “Blue Skies”. My RecommendationWhen I watched this movie I hadn’t read anything about it, I just knew that it starred Tim Allen. I was pleasantly surprised by the cast. Andie McDowell and Jenna Elfman are wonderful in their own rights and Elisha Cuthbert was very good as Barbie. It was pretty obvious from the beginning that it wasn’t Henry who had fallen to his death but the craziness that was his funeral was still fun to watch. You could say that he was just a cheating husband who couldn’t settle down but I found something more in him than that. He had a big lust for life, as well as women, that couldn’t be denied. He genuinely cared for all of his wives, he just couldn’t stay away from other women, even though he knew he would hurt the one he was with. I say go ahead and watch it. The cast was great, the storyline was thin but not too bad, and my wife and I both enjoyed the silliness of the women and their relationships with Henry.

Amidst all the serious stuff, comedy movies surely come as a breather to take us on a laughter vacation. Nothing gets better than an uncontrollable fit of laughter when it comes to entertainment. According to a research, laughter is one of the most involuntary human emotions. That means that neither can one be forced to laugh, nor can one be made to stop it once it gets started. I’m sure that many of us have laughed till the tummy starts aching and eyes become watery. Here a question arises that what does it take to induce laughter of that magnitude? With a million people around the globe at work to create comedy movies, our laughter needs will never remain unfulfilled. Though some of these movies fail miserably by not being able to invoke anything more than a sheepish attempt at laughter, more so at their stupidity, we have to give it up to those that actually manage to have a wonderful rib-tickling effect on us. Rare as they may be, they surely are there when you set out to look for them. No wonder so many of us resort to watching comedy movies online whenever we feel a need for a breeze through all the stress. Like all other genres, comedy movies too work best when they manage to create a comical situation in a real life setting. Nothing gets better than comedy that’s created in an everyday situation that we can easily relate to. There are those of them that tend to go overboard in what seems like them trying too hard, which definitely takes out all the fun of watching them. All the lovers of comedy out there stay in a constant look-out for movies that will leave them rolling over the floor in laughter. The aspiration that the people behind the scenes will keep getting exactly what it takes to keep all the comedy movie buffs entertained, lives on. Most of you would agree that when it comes to watch comedy movies, there are hardly ever any movies made that can be termed as ‘bad. ‘ That happens because no matter how dim-witted the comic timing maybe, it still somehow manages to paint a wide smile on our faces. In fact, comedy has to be a wrapped in a bit of mindless madness to invoke laughter. That’s probably why there are millions of comic freaks that swarm in to watch comedy movies online. These movies come as a huge sigh of relief when one’s fed up of all the heavy nerve wrecking stuff that does nothing to cast off the gloom.

I figured it would be a great way to test out whether or not she will be able to sit through the whole film! This movie seems to be packed with music, dancing and cute little creatures with tiny voices. It’s appropriate for children and a great way to share quality time this holiday weekend. What more could a five-year-old ask for? It’s Complicated This movie looks absolutely fabulous! Meryl Streep becomes “the other woman” when she gets involved again with her ex-husband played by Alec Baldwin. The movie also stars Steve Martin who is great in every movie he’s in. There is talk that this comedy is Oscar-worthy. This comedy seems to be filled with hilarious entertainment mixed with drama and starring a cast full of actors we know and love! Up In the Air This is one of those movies that you thought was already released because of all the publicity it’s receiving. Any movie starring George Clooney is about to be plastered all over the television and Internet. He’s always taking on unique roles such as his characters in O’ Brother, Where Art Thou? and The Men Who Stare at Goats. He seems to be doing it again as the professional hired by companies to fire their unwanted employees. Clooney’s character is also obsessed with collecting frequent flyer miles so this is probably why we always see him running for his flight on the trailers. Sherlock Holmes I haven’t heard very much about this upcoming movie but it stars Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as Watson and was directed by Guy Ritchie. Hopefully I’m wrong, but this doesn’t look that interesting and I don’t think I’ll even be checking out this flick on DVD. If you’re a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, this may be for you. The story focuses on the two working to unravel a case to prevent the destruction of Britain. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassis If you are a Heath Ledger fan, you’ll be happy to know that you can see him one more time on the big screen for this fantasy film. Christopher Plummer is Dr. Parnassis who invites the people of his audience to enter an amazing world through a magic mirror. Parnassis made a deal with the devil to be able to have this gift and the people around him are at risk of paying the price! Heath Ledger plays a mysterious stranger. After Ledger passed away half way through the making of the film, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell shared his role as his “physically transformed versions”. This should be interesting to say the least and it’s a great way to remember Heath Ledger and his awesome acting ability. Police, Adjective I haven’t heard of this foreign drama at all until I searched for new releases. It’s about a police officer’s choice to let a kid off the hook for offering hashish to another person. I’m not quite sure how this will equal two hours of entertainment but it sure sounds unique. Michael Phillips of The Chicago Tribune claims that the film is slow moving and slightly uneventful but you never know unless you give it a shot. The first three films I listed and possibly The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassis look to be interesting movies to check out this weekend at the theater. Let’s take a look at what movies will be released to a video store near you! All About Steve starring Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper and Thomas Hayden Church. (500) Days of Summer starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. District Nine starring Sharlto Copley, Jason Cope and David James. Extract starring Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis and Ben Affleck. There’s an awesome lineup of movies on Dish Network this week. I picked some of my favorites but there is even more to choose from when you have America’s Everything Package!
